The modern city of Pompeii developed around the Sanctuary founded in 1876 by Bartolo Longo, not far from the ancient center buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD.
The archaeological site of Pompeii is the richest insight into a Roman’s daily life. This makes it so special and unique both from an historical and artistic point of view. The 79 AD Vesuvius eruption engulfed the city and its inhabitants in a terrible storm of ashes and cinders. When in 1750 the remains of Pompeii were discovered, the bodies of people and animals along with their houses, temples, works of art and everyday objects were unearthed.

Pompeii is easily reachable from Sorrento taking the Circumvesuviana train.
The train station is walking distance from the Hotel Cesare Augusto
